The Indiana Storm Chasers welcomed three new chasers to the staff on Thursday.

Zachary Rudolph, Rick Rodgers, and Billy Marks were signed onto the team by Owner Zach Walters on Thursday. They will come just in time for the beginning of winter weather season and to end of severe weather season.

Zachary Rudolph is a U.S. Army veteran from Mitchell, IN. He was on the Henryville EF4 tornado of 2012 and has since been dedicated to chasing Indiana's weather.

Rick Rodgers and Billy Marks are the owners of the Elkhart County Skywarn. They both has been chasing many decades across northern IN and look to provide assistance, especially during winter weather season up north.

California Wildfire Smoke Reaches Indiana. What Does This Mean?

Smoke from the California wildfires has made the trip across the United States and has reached the Ohio Valley, including much of Indiana, says the National Weather Service Indianapolis office.

Smoke from wildfires is moving across the area, high in the atmosphere. This can create more colorful sunsets for #inwx. pic.twitter.com/CNz5WXaR4r

— NWS Indianapolis (@NWSIndianapolis) September 10, 2020
The smoke is not at ground level and shouldn't affect anyone in regards to air quality or allergies. In fact, the only thing the smoke should effect is...sunsets. Likely sunsets across the state will be much "prettier" and photogenic through the next few days before the smoke vanishes.

Currently, millions of acres are threatened by this wildfire. Something California residents are use to seeing every year.

The Indiana Storm Chasers were accepted into the NOAA NWS WRN Ambassador program this week after a 2 week long application process.

"The Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador™ initiative is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation’s readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against extreme weather, water, and climate events. As a WRN Ambassador, partners commit to working with NOAA and other Ambassadors to strengthen national resilience against extreme weather. In effect, the WRN Ambassador initiative helps unify the efforts across government, non-profits, academia, and private industry toward making the nation more ready, responsive, and resilient against extreme environmental hazards. Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) is a strategic outcome where society’s response should be equal to the risk from all extreme weather, water, and climate hazards," from the NWS WRN website.

The Indiana Storm Chasers plan on using this certification for educational purposes while touring the state giving lectures on severe weather safety. Learn more about WRN Ambassadors at

Severe  Thunderstorm Threat Returns Friday - Damaging Wind Gusts, Large Hail, & a Low End Tornado Risk

6/25/2020

Picture
Severe thunderstorms are possible across northern Indiana on Friday, June 26, 2020. Primarily, this will be a damaging wind gust threat and a large hail risk. However, a brief tornado or two shouldn't be ruled out based on model runs and soundings.

In the late afternoon, thunderstorms are expected to initiate across northern Indiana and trek east across northern IN/southern MI/northwest OH ahead of a developing squall line of severe thunderstorms. These small cells in front of the bigger line of severe storms would be greatest storms to become supercells and produce brief tornadoes. A 5% tornado threat exists in Michigan and a 2% tornado threat barely stretches into extreme northern IN.
